What size are the shoes you are wearing in the video ? just trying to get a feel for their size, thanks :)
Ah yes, should have mentioned that! I have an eu 43. I’d say they fit true to size. Same as my other feelgrounds, just a bit more security across the mid and heel. They have some printable charts on their website I believe 👍
@@LukeJonesMOVE thanks 🙏 Great feedback; as I ordered a pair of Classic Mesh from Feelgrounds but they were a tad small in my regular size: so going to go one up and get the Moves 🙏
I couldnt agree more.. I use contact staff to get into flow state and essentially use it as a moving meditation.. Kerp up the good work bro
Thank you for sharing 🙏 The staff is also one of my favourites to do the same with! There’s some interesting research around flow and how it can potentially improve outcomes in ptsd, anxiety and depression. Not necessarily as the sole treatment, but potentially an important piece of the puzzle that many miss out on!
I love Feelgrounds! I started wearing mine about 4 1/2 months ago, and it’s been the best shoe I’ve ever worn. However it did take me quite some time to get conditioned too, since at my job, I’m on my feet all day. There were a few days when my feet hurt so bad I had to take them off, but I fought through it!
Thanks for sharing Josh! Are the Feelgrounds your first barefoot/minimalist shoe? It can definitely take a little while for the body to adapt, and I’d typically recommend easing haha. I’m really glad to hear you’ve got on well with them since though mate!
What's better about these than the Vapor gloves ?
Good question! The MOVE have a bit more room in the toebox, and the upper material is more elastic and a little thicker so I can see them lasting longer than my merrells (which I would routinely burst through the side of). I’m still a big fan of the early vapour gloves though! Both have a thin 4mm sole. I’d say the early merrells have a little more flexibility through the sole. the MOVE has the option of the additional 4mm inner which some might like 👍
These look fab, a next potential addition maybe 🤔
Cheers pal!
the trusty green crocs have been relegated... Feelgrounds MOVE here: www.feelgrounds.com/?p=Hero
Nice - thank you for training me. I had not yet considered hooking the rope on my elbow. I also noticed I can coil the rope on a figure-8 around my elbows or arms. You opened up more infinities for me to explore. :)
You're more than welcome John, thank you very much for stopping by. Yes the options are almost endless when we form a foundation and then start exploring. Let me know how you get on, and if you have any questions at all!
OMFG. I have been doing this sort of thing since the 80s without knowing it was a "thing". @ 6:23 and I am yelling - now do it on both sides to make a repeating pattern! I am not the only one... he he.
Amazing! Fascinating that you found it organically. Perhaps we're somewhat drawn to movements that feel good and allow the nervous system to find a degree of balance? This is, to a degree, the basis of the Feldenkrais method and other somatic movement practices!
@LukeJonesMOVE Thanks 😊 Look up "Siniwali drills" for an example of the movements. Rodonda siniwali appears to be forward matador. I think there are a limited number of figure-8 motions - you find the same patterns in every weapon martial art. I started swinging by holding an 8 ft rope near the center - learning high and low, forward and back.... stepping in and out of it. The dragon roll is the only thing I found awkward - I don't have an analog movement for that one.
@LukeJonesMOVE Someone recorded me after ai had been spinning bats for 20 minutes - totally exhausted here - but ai bet you will be able to see similar patterns. ruclips.net/user/shortslh-DtBL-h68?si=ocD1kZUpUY0kqUW9
@@JohnBoen Amazing, thanks John I'll check that out! Yes there's an incredible overlap across various weapon classes - staffs, maces, clubs, swords, flails and beyond. The dragon roll is less intuitive for sure. I found it tricky initially. Like any skill though, it's just conscious practice, time and patience 👍
Very good; Luke! How about using a medicine ball for the same purpose?
Thanks Joseph! Yes that's a good shout. I recently bought a new slam ball that I've been throwing around a fair bit. Great fun. Hope you're keeping well.
Very good, Luke! How about using a medicine ball for the same purpose?
Got any cool tools or equipment that enhance your training? Let me know down here!
Long time ago, obviously, but I can so relate to this. My hip started troubling me after a cross country skiing vacation. Turned out it is hip arthritis which have changed a lot as far as training goes. Like you, I try to focus on what I can do and not sit around wishing for things to be different.
Thanks for sharing! Yes it can be difficult when we run into obstacles, injuries, illnesses etc. I feel like it's important to acknowledge the frustrations that come up and express those emotions in a healthy way. But then move towards looking at what we can change or control. Often easier said than done though!
Just found your channel through a search for bouncing. I really like it ❤
Thank you, much appreciated! Hope there's some value there for you!
Nice green crocs, Luke.
Cheers Joseph, they help me go faster!
Nice explanation! In/out and out/in is a great way to explain shoulder mechanics here. As for the origin, the pattern is originally called Tandem Sneak/Super Sneak. The name Hanuman’s Dance is probably a play on the fact that doing it in a shoulder-dominant way (high wrists) makes us look like monkeys. The movement is also related to Teacup drills in internal martial arts (shoulder-dominant) and hip reels in flow arts (wrist-dominant)
Cheers - I’m glad it came across! And thank you for the insight, really appreciate it. You’ve given me a few more paths to explore! Subscribed to your channel too and looking forward to learning more 🙏
🪢All tied up with the Hanuman's Dance? Throw your questions + stories down below ⬇
Nice amount of variety and experimentation here. Good ideas!
Cheers friend!
Is this the same move as hanumans dance?
Similar, but not quite! The hanumans dance / tandem sneak is a combination of the underhand AND overhand sneak. It's a tricky but fun one to learn. There are some good tutorials out there but I'll put one of my own up soon on here as I learnt it a slightly different way :)
I'm moving every hour on the hour these days to avoid being sedentary, nothing intense, and I came across this video. I'm 5'7 185 lbs. What weight would you recommend I do these exercises with?
That’s a good strategy mate - one I’ve used myself! It really depends but anywhere from 6-12 kg can be a great starting place 👍 Err on the side of caution and build from there
Do you have a video for progressions working up to cossac squat, and then two or three things that are above and beyond it?
Yep... 3:08 - Cossack Squat Regressions. 5:24 - Cossack Squat Progressions
hey bro , anxiety is directly linked to nutrition , try some mushroom complexes and organic fruit and veg ...were you comfort eating ? cbg cbd oiis are also good to help the brain ...
Thanks for the insight mate! There certainly can be a link between nutrition and anxiety, and I've settled on a regime that works for me after 15+ years of experimentation with various modalities, supplementation etc. I had quite adverse effects from both CBG & CBD, and not ever noticed much difference with shroom complexes, unfortunately, so I guess it really varies from person to person! But I appreciate the suggestions! The things that have helped me the most are getting back to regular movement, journalling, somatic tracking, deep rest, self-compassion & therapy.
Agreed , i lost a lot of weight and this has reconnected my toes to my thumbs ... not bad cardio if the ropes thick enough as well!
Ah great to hear it’s been helpful. And definitely can get the lungs working with a heavy rope or using knots on the end!
Weirdly, in my head, i'm seeing a guy with a greatsword. I think a lot of these movements would be totally transferable to that. Intersting vid.
I see the same guy in my head when I'm swinging the rope around hah. Definitely applicable to various weapons - sticks, swords, mace, clubs, flail etc. All based around the same foundational movement patterns, then with slight tweaks
I feel this is a good warm up to a full workout or a run etc. thank you!
Absolutely!! Thank you for stopping by, appreciate it
Thank you for your comprehensive exploration of the benefits of rope flow. I started rope flow about a year and a half ago and love it, although I drop in and out of it. Listening to your outline the value encourages me to keep going.
Thank you for stopping by, and for the kind words. I’m glad the video was helpful! And it’s perfectly normal to have practices and tools that we dip in and out of! Happy flowing 🤙
Dude!!! Really needed to hear from you today! Got long covid Febr '24 and today was the first day I felt an energy + day. Heart5 is quite literally not like before and limbs are stiff and sore more than not. 52 yrs practicing martial artist, 44 yrs studying and teaching t'ai chi. Rope, and deep knee resting pose,... and some dietary changes has made all the difference. Cheers!
Hiya Andrew mate, thank you for the comment - great to hear from you! Sorry to about the long covid. I know firsthand how rough that can be! Really glad to hear that you’ve started to see some improvements. It can be a long, rocky road to recovery, but the most important thing is to be patient and kind to yourself along the way. All the best pal, take care 👍
Good job, Luke! You look winded but happy. People think you have to spend a lot of money to become fit but you just demonstrated what one can do with a rope and using your own body as a weight bearing exercise. I like working out with sticks. Google Tom Langhorne a.k.a. Fandabi Dozi, who is in Scotland, about stick exercises.
Thank you Joseph! It was a fun one to film down on the beach. We were hoping for the usual orange-pink sunset but had a cloudier day. Thanks for sharing Fandabi Dozi - I may well be a stickaholic too based on his latest video!
Hello, these movements are extremely exciting and holistic, I went straight to the Kanirope website. Which rope did you buy there? Kanirope has thousands of ropes. 1,000 thanks for your answer.
Yes, it’s definitely a rewarding practice to explore! I went for a 14mm poly braid rope initially, but have also made ones out of hemp and even recycled fishing rope. The beauty of it is that the exact material doesn’t matter too much - it’s more about the principles and enjoyment you gain from it!
@@LukeJonesMOVE Yes, very cool. Thanks for your answer. My rope is on its way
Excellent! Let me know how you get on!
🪢How has rope flow impacted you? I’d love to hear your stories! Let me know down here!
Love this! And I loved filming with you :)

Cheers Tamara, getting there slowly but surely! Haha keeping the nostalgia alive 🤘
I am 2 mins in and am already impressed with no bs, good explanation and the progression of the easier ones to increased difficulty from the beginning
Thanks for the kind words mate, happy to help!

Great workout matey! :)
Thank you pal, top camerawork
Thanks for breaking down the movement parts.Tthat's very helpful
Happy to help!! I’ve just released a follow along session too that you might find useful 👍
Bravo Luke! Many people want to start a fitness program but are not sure how and this rope exercise is easy to learn and intuitive to do on your own. Many people are turned off by judgmental gyms and personal trainers who spout incomprehensible nonsense. How about exercising with sticks too? That is what I am doing now.
Thank you for the support as always Joseph! I agree, one of the big advantages of rope flow is that it's so accessible. I'd be interested to hear more about your stick training! What does a typical training session look like for you? I used to practice with a staff when I did Tang Soo Do as a teen, and have actually just started a form of Japanese Jiu-Jitsu that incorporates various weapons too.
This one's been a long time coming! ⬇Let me what other rope flow follow-alongs or tutorials you'd like to see! ⬇
Appreciate the video, I do feel a lot more mobile after following along :-)
Thanks Caroline. Great to hear!
Tok me some few minutes to learn!! Awesome video.. i was only missing and struggling with one issue and that was getting the rope back again on the other side. But as soon as i understood that u needed to rotate towards the other side.. if the rope was back on the left and as i was about to touch the floor i rotated to the right side pulling the rope on the right and back and than rotating back again to the left and that made it all so easy!!
Great job! Glad it helped 👍
What type of rope do you use, and where could I pick one up, great video
Cheers! I've made a few with nylon, hemp, poly blends and recycled ropes from the beach. There's also the Weck method RMT rope, Octomoves, Way of the Rope - lots of options. The exact tool doesn't matter much to be honest - more the techniques and principles :)
@@LukeJonesMOVE Thank you Luke, again , I loved your video. I am 69 and I try to bust my ass everyday, I think rope flow could really help my spinal flexibility.
@@thomashowlin4353 Cheers Thomas! Great work. It can definitely be a useful tool for getting the spine moving in different ways. I've also found it's nice on the wrists, shoulders, ankles and hips too! And a nice way to wind down and quiet the mind
Best tutorial I have seen
Thank you! 🙏
Great challenge, good teaching
Thank you! Cheers!
Good to see you again, Luke.
Good to see you again, Luke.
Thank you, hope you’re keeping well
Haven't heard BMTH in years, so this short clip brough about some nostalgia related feelings, haha.
Haha doing my small part to break up the same old trending songs on here 🤘
@@LukeJonesMOVE Thank you for that! And for all the valuable videos and information, of course. :D
@@tc-3 Cheers Tamara! 🙏
Springy, heavy, turny. Got it.
That's the gist of it!
